Jock Black (my Great Grandmother's Brother) lived on the family farm
of Tiretigan, on the Kilberry Estate in Argyll, Scotland. In 1902
he emigrated to join his older brother, Lachie, on the family tobacco farm
in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).
On the following pages, you can read the simple diary he wrote en-route, and later sent to his sister back in Scotland. The original copy is now held by the Argyll Records Office. The trip lasted from Wednesday 17th December, 1902 till Friday 16th January, 1903. Names of people and places which are underlined have links to the Glossary. I am indebted to my late Great Aunty Lorna MacEchern for providing me with copies of the letter, and a wealth of knowledge (much of it contained in the Glossary) about all who are mentioned in it.
